Mermaid Inspired Bedroom – an interview with stylist Gabrielle Rose

Gabrielle, I love your gorgeous Palm Springs inspired home. What made you choose a mermaid themed room for your daughter?

“I loved the idea of Pearl being surrounded by beautiful, mystical creatures.”

I noticed your daughters name is Isla Pearl – is there a connection with her name to the ocean?

“Yes, I am happiest basking up the sunshine, looking out at the ocean – there is no better feeling then leaving everything behind & letting the power of a wave rush over you. I wanted my daughter to have the most beautiful, ocean inspired name.”

How do you start the process of decorating a room in your house?

“First, I create a mood board containing images that inspire me from pinterest. I then stand at the door and select the main hero furniture piece that will suit the space. I then source styling pieces that are in line with my mood inspiration. I always prefer to shop small.”

What is your favorite decor piece in Isla’s room?

“The life size Palm Tree Decal by Phoenix and the Ocean was an absolute game changer – it instantly created fun Island vibes. The personalised name plaque by Letterly took my breath away. The child like prints by Little Peach and Pip are super fun & the mermaid decals by Miss Pie Design perfectly set the mermaid theme.”

When it comes to kids bedrooms, in your opinion, what are the biggest mistakes people make?

“I would have to say lack of storage. Beautiful bedrooms have a pretty place for every item great & small.”

I’ve noticed you love DIY’s – what is your favorite DIY project to date?

“100% our crazy tile stairs & front balcony.

This task really challenged me & transformed the facade of our home. Every time somebody compliments the transformation I’m like “yeh girl~ you did that!”.

Finally, what does Isla think of her new mermaid room?

“Isla absolutely loves her “big girl room”.

Her favourite thing to do is to show it off to all our guests.

Everyone must sit in her Clam shell bed & read her “The Little Mermaid book 🐚”

Thank you, Gabrielle for sharing your journey with us. We absolutely adore your daughter’s mermaid bedroom.

Palm Trees and Neutral Decor create beautiful kids rooms

Palm trees can be a great addition to a kid’s room as they can add a tropical and fun vibe.

Palm trees are often associated with tropical and beachy environments, which can evoke feelings of relaxation and calmness. The sight of palm trees can remind people of vacations or peaceful moments spent in nature. Additionally, the gentle swaying of palm fronds in the breeze can create a soothing and tranquil atmosphere. As a result, incorporating palm trees into decor can help create a calming and serene environment.

Neutral colours can create a calm and soothing atmosphere in a child’s room. Soft shades of beige, brown, or white can be used as a base colour, and then you can add pops of colour with accessories like pillows, rugs, or wall art. This way, you can easily change the color scheme as your child grows and their preferences change. Additionally, neutral colours can also help to create a gender-neutral space that can be enjoyed by both boys and girls.
