Hanging Seashell Sconces Without Hardwiring

This is an easy, no-drill lighting solution using wall sconces, and battery operated light bulbs.

There’s nothing quite like soft, ambient lighting to create a cozy and inviting space, especially when it comes in the form of stunning ceramic seashell wall sconces. When I came across the Black Salt Co. Ariel Sconce, I knew they were the perfect addition to my home. The only problem? I am renting and didn’t want to deal with wiring or drilling into my walls.

That’s when I found the perfect renter-friendly solution—using removable command wall hooks and remote-control battery-operated bulbs from Bunnings. Now, I have the luxe look of designer wall sconces without the hassle! Here’s how I did it.

What You’ll Need:

How to Install:

Step 1: Choose the Placement

Decide where you want your sconces to go. I placed mine on either side of my bed for a soft, symmetrical look. You could also position them above a console table, in a reading nook, or to frame an artwork.

Step 2: Attach the Removable Wall Hooks

Follow the instructions on the removable hooks and make sure they’re secured properly with the correct weight. I recommend using a level to ensure the sconces will hang evenly.

Step 3: Add the Battery-Operated Bulbs

These bulbs are a game-changer! Just pop them into the sconce and with a quick tap of the remote, they create a cozy glow with two brightness settings. No electricians required!

Step 4: Test & Style

Once everything is in place, step back and test the lighting. Adjust the position if needed, and style the surrounding space to enhance the ambiance.

The soft, diffused light from these sconces adds such a dreamy touch to my space. They work beautifully paired with natural textures and coastal decor. If you love the idea of wall sconces but don’t want the commitment of wiring, this is the perfect solution.

I hope you love it as much as I do!

The Shores Miami: A Retro Lover’s Dream Motel on the Gold Coast

The-Shores-Miami-Gold-Coast-Blog-Pool-Area

Tucked away in the heart of Miami, QLD, The Shores Miami is a Retro Motel that is a vibrant nod to the golden age of road trips and carefree coastal escapes. The moment I pulled into the pastel-coloured, palm-framed courtyard, it felt like I had stepped into a sun-soaked postcard from the 70's. Every detail, from the signage to the classic motel-style layout, spilled vintage charm while still offering the modern comforts needed for a dreamy Gold Coast getaway.

The rooms are a perfect blend of nostalgia and contemporary ease. Crisp white linens contrast beautifully with bold, retro-inspired decor, and the pops of teal, burnt orange and mustard yellow create a playful yet calming atmosphere. Retro appliances complete the nostalgia illusion — a touch that makes the experience feel even more like a step back in time. And let’s not forget the iconic pool, where gorgeous loungers, striped umbrellas and swaying palms make for the ultimate Miami Beach-style retreat.

The design detail is exquisite - palm patterned wallpaper creates a tropical embrace overhead, while retro-tiled staircases add a playful nod to mid-century charm. The bathrooms contrast beautifully with their dark green tiled walls, adding a modern depth to the otherwise sun-drenched, pastel-infused aesthetic.

The outdoor spaces are just as thoughtfully designed. A crazy pave feature sprawls across the sun-drenched patio, leading to a sparkling pool styled with funky loungers and towering palm trees. The breezy coastal styling make every corner of this motel feel like it was designed for a photoshoot—effortlessly Instagrammable without feeling overdone.

As night falls, festoon lights drape the courtyard in a golden glow, creating an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and full of ambience that's inviting.

What makes The Shores Miami so special is how it embraces its history while keeping things fresh and relevant. The vintage foundations aren’t just preserved; they’re celebrated. From the original motel architecture, complete with arched door frames, breeze block walls, and a classic open-air layout, the motel stays true to its 70's roots while layering in contemporary comforts that make for a truly unique stay.

For design lovers, this isn’t just accommodation—it’s an experience. Whether you’re here for a weekend escape, a creative retreat, or simply to soak in the Gold Coast vibe, The Shores Miami is just a short stroll from the beach and offers a perfectly styled setting that proves good design never goes out of fashion.

Mermaid Inspired Bedroom – an interview with stylist Gabrielle Rose

mermaid-bedroom

Gabrielle, I love your gorgeous Palm Springs inspired home. What made you choose a mermaid themed room for your daughter?

“I loved the idea of Pearl being surrounded by beautiful, mystical creatures.”

I noticed your daughters name is Isla Pearl – is there a connection with her name to the ocean?

“Yes, I am happiest basking up the sunshine, looking out at the ocean – there is no better feeling then leaving everything behind & letting the power of a wave rush over you. I wanted my daughter to have the most beautiful, ocean inspired name.”

How do you start the process of decorating a room in your house?

“First, I create a mood board containing images that inspire me from pinterest. I then stand at the door and select the main hero furniture piece that will suit the space. I then source styling pieces that are in line with my mood inspiration. I always prefer to shop small.”

What is your favorite decor piece in Isla’s room?

“The life size Palm Tree Decal by Phoenix and the Ocean was an absolute game changer – it instantly created fun Island vibes. The personalised name plaque by Letterly took my breath away. The child like prints by Little Peach and Pip are super fun & the mermaid decals by Miss Pie Design perfectly set the mermaid theme.”

When it comes to kids bedrooms, in your opinion, what are the biggest mistakes people make?

“I would have to say lack of storage. Beautiful bedrooms have a pretty place for every item great & small.”

I’ve noticed you love DIY’s – what is your favorite DIY project to date?

“100% our crazy tile stairs & front balcony.

This task really challenged me & transformed the facade of our home. Every time somebody compliments the transformation I’m like “yeh girl~ you did that!”.

Finally, what does Isla think of her new mermaid room?

“Isla absolutely loves her “big girl room”.

Her favourite thing to do is to show it off to all our guests.

Everyone must sit in her Clam shell bed & read her “The Little Mermaid book 🐚”

Thank you, Gabrielle for sharing your journey with us. We absolutely adore your daughter’s mermaid bedroom.

Palm Trees and Neutral Decor create beautiful kids rooms

our-cactus-abode-palm-tree-decal

Palm trees can be a great addition to a kid’s room as they can add a tropical and fun vibe.

Palm trees are often associated with tropical and beachy environments, which can evoke feelings of relaxation and calmness. The sight of palm trees can remind people of vacations or peaceful moments spent in nature. Additionally, the gentle swaying of palm fronds in the breeze can create a soothing and tranquil atmosphere. As a result, incorporating palm trees into decor can help create a calming and serene environment.

Neutral colours can create a calm and soothing atmosphere in a child’s room. Soft shades of beige, brown, or white can be used as a base colour, and then you can add pops of colour with accessories like pillows, rugs, or wall art. This way, you can easily change the color scheme as your child grows and their preferences change. Additionally, neutral colours can also help to create a gender-neutral space that can be enjoyed by both boys and girls.
